PROMPT: Eco-Green Environmentally Friendly Paper Company (“E-GEF”) is a paper mill that has pioneered a process for cleaner production of household paper products (toilet tissue, paper towels, napkins and tablecloths). E-GEF is publicly traded and employees over 250 people in its plant on the Illinois River near Peoria,Illinois. Mary Bystander lives about 3 miles down river from E-GEF’s paper mill in a neighborhood that is built along the Illinois River. Using the example of E-GEF Paper from the previous assignment, design a corporate persona for E-GEF. If E-GEF were an individual, what would they be like? How would you suggest managing the corporate identity of E-GEF to maximize its value and reputation to key stakeholders.
SHORT PAPER ASSIGNMENT PARAMETERS
The paper should be no less than one page and no more than two pages using regular (1”) margins and 12-point font. The paper is an opportunity to develop an argument using evidence from course material, outside research and your own experience. You will have a prompt for each paper, but you should see the prompt as a chance to open up your thinking and take a position of your own. Therefore, it is acceptable (and even advisable) to use the prompt as a jumping off point and not a restriction on your thinking. The instructors do not have any answer in mind to the prompt, and it would not make sense to try to guess what they want you to write.
The paper should have a clear thesis statement. The thesis statement is your argument, the claim that you want your reader to accept. Be sure to bold the thesis statement.
The thesis statement must be supported by evidence. Evidence is information that can be assumed to be true because it is factual, represents the opinions of experts, or is the product of learned experience or observation. Be sure to bold the evidence that supports the thesis.
In a short paper, you do not have room for a general or flowery introduction. Get to the point.
You must take a position on a controversial subject. “Controversial” in this context means that there are more than one reasonable position that might be taken and you are choosing one of them. Controversial does not mean that your paper must argue for unreasonable positions or extremes. It simply means that you must engage your thesis with the understanding that others may reasonably disagree with you.
While outside research is allowed, the paper is not intended to be a research exercise. You will generally have enough material from assigned readings and your own experience to complete the paper. If, however, you are making claims that require additional evidence, it is your responsibility to provide it.
Be careful of naked claims or assumptions that will weaken your argument.
