The purpose of this assignment is to further assist students in understanding how their chosen theoretical approach will impact direct practice. Specifically, allowing students an opportunity to learn more about their selected theory and interventions associated with this theory from outside resources.
In applying your group’s selected theoretical approach to your client’s case, create a voice narrated PowerPoint presentation that discusses and details the following:
What is the nature of your therapeutic relationship with this client in the context of this approach? Think specifically about your role as the therapist under the umbrella of your theory
According to the approach, how the main stages of therapy (i.e., beginning /assessment, middle and end/termination) are unfolding (have unfolded or will unfold) in this client’s case? You can elaborate or project these stages as you see fit.
How you are employing (or plan to employ) the approach’s key intervention strategies to the client’s presenting problem
Demonstration of an intervention or assessment that implements the practice of such theory. Be creative! Students in the past have developed role-play scenarios, and incorporated outside handouts and/or videos to assist. For example, a group that chose Behavioral Theory, a possible treatment selection could be assertiveness training. Please be sure to explain the connection between your theory and the intervention or assessment you are demonstrating. Also, provide information on its effectiveness, suggested presenting problem(s) it can be utilized to treat, and any other helpful information for your intervention or assessment.
You are expected to provide voice-over narrations of these presentations to model what would be appropriate for a presentation in a traditional classroom setting. Each group member must have a speaking role. Please do not read your slides, remember to present the information to the audience as if you were giving this information at a social work conference.
