Introduction:
Leaders have shaped history and have left fascinating legacies for many generations. Whether we agree with them or not, their decisions have the potential to influence minds and hearts in both positive and negative ways. For the purpose of this assignment, you are to choose one leader (who is no longer living) that impacted the lives and minds of their followers, and respond to the associated questions, focusing on their legacy. This will be done by examining not only their positive attributes, but also their mistakes/weaknesses, using your critical thinking skills.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Examine the traits, behaviors and relationships of historical leaders and their leadership style.
2. Critique the leaders’ leadership style, strengths, weaknesses, charisma, and legacy.
3. Examine the personal side of leadership as embodied in personality, values and attitudes.
4. Evaluate the various styles of leadership and a leader’s role in developing effective followers.
Assignment Instructions:
Select one famous leader (no longer living) and address the following questions:
1. Introduce your leader and provide a brief (<150 words) summary of their biography. 2. What do you view to be the positive (strengths) of their leadership? 3. What do you view to be the negative (weaknesses) of their leadership? 4. How did the selected leader impact society and what is their perceived legacy? 5. What is your general perception of their legacy, and why did you choose to select this leader? Paper Specifications: Using examples from the class lectures, required readings, and online resources, write a paper (approx. 750 words, Times New Roman size 12 font, with 1 inch margins) on your selected leader, addressing the five aforementioned questions. This is not intended to be a biography of the leader, but it is intended to be a thoughtful critique of their leadership skills, character, attributes, weaknesses, and legacy to the world. This assignment means you have to do some bibliographical research using the internet and library resources. Your (approx.) 750 word paper should be uploaded to ASSIGNMENTS on Blackboard by October 12. Research Sources: In addition to referencing components of our class lectures and required readings, your paper should include 4-5 online sources. Please include these sources in your Bibliography, and use standard APA referencing methodology to cite your sources.
