RE: Discussion – Week 3
COLLAPSE
Week 3 Discussion
People need to become involved in politics, especially nurses. Nurses should be involved when politics starts to bring in policies that affect medical care. This is because they are experiencing the healthcare field first and know more information than someone in the office who has never stepped foot in a hospital setting. Unfortunately, politics are viewed negatively, so nurses don’t want to become involved. One of the reasons why it is so negative is because the different social parties don’t like each other (Milstead & Short, 2019). Some people want to voice their opinions about political subjects, and others want to argue and disagree about everything politically related. This can make it seem distasteful to get involved with politics, so many people don’t.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a healthcare law that was enacted in March of 2010. The purpose of the law is to make healthcare more available to others with a lower income. It also expanded the Medicaid program to others. The Medicaid program helps to provide healthcare costs to people with limited resources. When President Barack Obama was in office, he enabled Obamacare, the ACA. Obamacare was one of President Obama’s platforms while he was in office. When the 2016 election came along, one of Donald Trump’s plans was to revoke the ACA, which made many people unhappy immediately. While President Trump was in office, he didn’t know exactly how to get rid of Obamacare. He wasn’t sure when to repeal and replace the program. Some members of the Republican party were concerned about the replacement of Obamacare (Manchikanti & Hirsch, 2016). When certain government members want to be re-elected, they will find any way to try and meet people’s needs. They will say whatever they need to so that more people will be interested in voting for them.
In politics, it is essential to receive votes. Voters are more likely to choose someone who shares the same beliefs. It also depends on the qualities the voter finds crucial such as loyalty, satisfaction, and employment. Sometimes voters can’t vote on their interests but need to vote for a candidate closer to their preferences. Then the candidate must act on their promises to please their party. Voters do influence the government, so it is essential for everyone to become involved (Shor, 2018).
