Create a graphic organizer (table, chart, prezi, PowerPoint) that connects all of the Social Studies GPS for your grade level and children’s literature selections appropriate for the content. For every standard identified in BOLD, select two children’s books, poems, songs, etc. that you would use top teach the content. For grades 4-5, you may focus on the main topics only (Civil War, Immigration, etc.) since you have more standards and your books selections will likely be chapter books (do not be afraid to use picture books to teach some of the concepts in 4-5th grades).
