You’ve learned about the characteristics of and processes involved in
various media. You’ve also practiced recognizing them in artworks in the
Scenario activity. But how and why do artists choose a particular medium for a
project? Sometimes there are practical considerations – such as available
materials – but often, the qualities of certain mediums can aid in expressing
the intentions of the artist.
Instructions: Visit The Google Art Project, and search by the medium.
Find a work of art and identify the medium used and in a few sentences,
explain what you think the artwork expresses and why that particular medium is
appropriate for that message, sensation, or concept.
