Explore the Hamlet textual network by investigating a theme – i.e. uncertainty/certainty, acting, appearance/reality, and memory/remembrance – in William Shakespeare’s play and in Tom Stoppard’s play RaGaD. Answer questions like these in developing your argument:
How does Tom Stoppard define and transform a major theme from Shakespeare’s original Hamlet? Why does he transforms the theme as he does?
What may be something new we learn or see about the theme in Stoppard’s play because we understand how he has transformed the pretext?
What type of transformation is RaGaD? (e.g. Is it reverent or irreverent?)
Only these themes can be used without further consultation: uncertainty/certainty, acting, appearance/reality, and memory/remembrance. See me for approval if you have other ideas.
Avoid writing a comparison and contrast essay. Make sure to write about a transformation, which is an interpretation of the pretext!
