Write a paper, 2 (full) – 3 pages, in APA format based on a current policy issue read in a recent news article – published no more than one week in advance of the date due.
Do NOT use references for this paper. You are to only use the news item source and the Jansson table of political ideologies. You will refer to your news source in the body of your paper, for example: “In “Name of Article,” published by the New York Times (January 17, 2023), the problem of…is examined. The author of the article, Jill Murray, describes…” As another example: “I reviewed “Name of Article,” an article on — policy written by paul walker and published in the New York Times (January 17, 2023). Word it as you like – the only requirement is that you provide the name of the news item, the author name, the source, and the date of publication. Remember, you must use one of the sources listed.
Rationale:
 This short paper will help you become more aware that you hear about policy (or needed
policies) all the time, maybe without even knowing it, 2) give you a basic level of policy analysis, and 3) through discussion in class (or on discussion board online), will emphasize the collaborative nature of policy practice. Also, these papers may help you identify a policy area for your policy brief or policy analysis assignments.
Grading Rubric
Grade based on clarity and thoroughness of description of each of the following
1) identify the social welfare policy discussed in the article (1 point);
2) identify the problem the policy seeks to address (1 point);
3) brief summary of the article (3 points)
3) discuss the policy issue using the Jansson Ideologies reading to describe where the
policy falls ideologically with a minimum of 2 relevant values (3 points)
4) how the policy helps or does not support economic and social justice (2 point).
Note: 2 point deduction if you use references other than your news item and the Jansson ideology table. This is not a research paper. It is your review and explanation a news item using the Jansson table and reading to better understand the problem/policy.
