Chart a history of the internet starting from the year you were born (1963)
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is for you to identify critical moments in the
history of the internet. Technology has dramatically changed the way people
communicate, especially when it comes to writing. Method:
● Successful responses will identify three or
four key moments in the history of the internet chosen from your perspective.
You will decide what counts as a significant moment in the internet’s history,
and you must make that decision clear to the reader. The moments you select
should also have some clear connection to writing and digital communication.
Citations are required to support your research. ● Since the assignment requires you to chart a history, the paper
should follow a chronological through line.
● Selecting random events in the internet’s history will yield a
sloppy analysis. Consider the similarities between all these events and try to
unify them around a theme. For example, I might choose events that relate to
the theme of sharing knowledge. If I did so, I could talk about the creation of
Wikipedia and YouTube. ● The significance of each event should be made clear to the reader.
