What are the essential differences between the two groups?

Using the course readings and the documents on the Mongols, write an essay which addresses the distinctions between “civilized” and “barbarian” societies. For most of this course we have explored how some human groups have created villages, cities, and states. Those who lived within these communities came to think of themselves as “civilized” and considered those who did not as “barbarians.” Using the Mongols and other “barbarian” groups as points of comparison, answer the following questions: What are at least three major similarities between the activities and institutions of the “civilized” communities and those of the “barbarians”? What accounts for these similarities? What are the essential differences between the two groups? What accounts for these differences? According to the “civilized,” what are main characteristics that separates “barbarians” from the “civilized”? Your essay must be typed, double-spaced. Margins must be one inch on top, sides, and bottom. You do not need a title-page but your essay MUST have a title. Number your pages.
