Part 1 (25 points):
§ Students must use Microsoft Excel to work on the budget project. The budget outline in
Appendix A of the Dixon (2003) article should be re-created in Excel and that file should
be filled out and submitted based on your own plans to balance the budget.
§ As you develop your budget plan, consider the following:
§ The best solutions for the budget problem:
˗ follow a rational and easily understood system of budgeting
˗ meet the budget goal of spending no more than $312,000 of district
allocated funds
˗ are seen as fair by the coaches

Part 2 (25 points):
§ In addition to completing the Excel spreadsheet, students must answer the following
questions (in MS Word) which address all of the changes made, and provide support or
reasons for these changes. You will be graded on your ability to effectively balance the
budget and justify the changes you decided to make. Write your responses in paragraph
form. The total written portion of this assignment (Part 2) should be a minimum of 2
pages double-spaced (12-point font, 1-inch margins). ** Note that APA formatting is not
