This is not a personal response paper, so no “I, me, my” pronouns.
Also, no personal experiences or reflections from your life. Focus 100% on what is in the story itself.
Select one element to write about. You can discuss other elements as needed as part of this, but you must always be focused on your choice of element. For example, you might choose theme, and then discuss how setting, characters, and plot all develop and support the theme. In another example, if you choose setting, you could include imagery – discussing how the author uses it to describe the setting.
Paper must include:
Introduction Paragraph with a thesis statement.
2 – 5 Body Paragraphs – each with a clear topic sentence as the first sentence. ALL other sentences in a body paragraph must relate to its topic sentence.
Conclusion Paragraph.
If you use a story outside of your textbook, add the reference/works cited information at the bottom of your paper. If the story is online, include a link.
