1. This paper should define your identity by explaining the theory of personality you relate most with and why.
2. This paper should also include a statement explaining your personal and professional philosophy. Include ways this has changed during your tenure in this program.
3. You will be expected to critically evaluate various theories of personality and analyze them in view of your personal background, values, life experiences and personality. Use this opportunity to explore your self-awareness and understanding of who you are as a cultural and developmental being. Be sure to explain why this orientation is relevant to the population(s) you will serve. Students will also prepare a brief presentation titled “Who Am I”? Components of the paper should include:
• Your philosophy of self and others (for example: “What are my beliefs about the world?”)
• Your current strength in regard to your basic counseling skills. Be thorough, specific, and
concrete.
• What impact does your culture have on the theory of personality you feel you identify with most?
• What counseling skill is most difficult for you? Why? How do you improve this?
• What personal values and/or belief systems have the potential to positively or negatively
impact your development as a counselor?
Students will be expected to prepare a brief presentation titled “My Worldview”, which will creatively detail your journey through the development of this personal and professional counselor identity developmental process. Presentations should briefly explain your philosophies of life, how you “came to be”, and implications for further development as you progress through the program. Students should consider creative ways in which to present this topic (i.e., power points, video clips, props, ect.). This presentation will be 10 minutes in length and have no other requirements
