Imagine that you are a social worker in an agency, and you have come across a policy issue that you feel
your agency needs to address at the local, state, or federal level. This can be an issue that requires change
at the legislative, executive, or judicial level (or a combination). Your job is to convince your instructor
(the director of your organization/agency) and the board of directors/trustees (your classmates) that we
should pursue this particular policy issue. Choose an area within this set of programs and policies:
Write a three- to five-page paper of a contemporary issue related to that area of Health, Nutrition, and Behavioral Health
1. Provides a summary of the issue
2. Identifies the stakeholders (primary and secondary) who have an interest in this particular policy issue
3. Argues the merit of the issue from the Black Perspective
4. Connects the issue to the work of a past pioneer and/or institution
5. Connects the issue to current social policy and social programs
6. Provides clear policy recommendations that promote human rights, social justice, and/or economic
equity
